The Role

Forkast.News is hiring a Staff Writer to join the editorial team and cover the leading stories in digital assets and blockchain / DLT. The editorial team is comprised of journalists who take pride in serving our audience with insightful, original reporting. Our content is read by top institutional / retail investors, entrepreneurs, and corporate executives. This is an opportunity to have access to leading voices in the industry on a daily basis. Your written work will be shared across multimedia channels of print, video, and podcast. This role will work closely with our Managing Editor.

Job Duties

  • Monitor the latest business movements and trends in digital assets / crypto and stay on top of new developments that have regulatory, economic, and business impact, particularly from an Asia perspective

  • Work with editorial leadership to pitch, draft, and publish story ideas to completion on a daily basis

  • Ability to augment editorial coverage with market trends, insights, charts, data, analysis is a plus

  • Contribute to new coverage ideas and product ideas

  • Engage in-person or on social media with industry professionals and independently find interview sources for original reporting

Qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years of experience as a writer with a digital publisher or newsroom equivalent, preferably covering business or technology

  • Applicant must be a versatile reporter / writer, comfortable turning around breaking news stories quickly under tight deadlines and also capable of writing smart, insightful, and engaging news analyses, profiles, and longer trend stories

  • Thrives in a fast-paced, decentralized startup environment – hungry and willing to roll up your sleeves

  • Ability to write muscular prose about emerging technology and complex issues in a way that is clear-eyed and free of jargon but also in a sophisticated manner for Forkast's professional readership

  • As this would be a remote position, our ideal candidate must be a self-starter who can work independently but also collaboratively to co-author stories

  • Strong interest in digital assets, blockchain, and crypto; familiarity with concepts in digital assets / crypto is highly preferred

  • Must have a keen eye for stories. Aside from writing about the news, the staff writer should also seek out sources, read industry news widely, and try to generate and develop new story ideas whenever possible

  • Strong sense of journalistic integrity, with an excellent eye for grammar, spelling, syntax, and writing for clarity

  • Attention to detail and emphasis on fact-checking

  • Strong communication (native written and verbal English)

  • Knowledge of WordPress CMS for digital publication is a plus

The Role

Forkast.News is looking for a Production Support Intern to join our growing editorial team. The internship will provide an inside look at what it's like to work at a fast-paced startup and is designed to provide students with real-world experience and exposure to working in the digital media industry.

You do not need to know much about blockchain or crypto, but any interest or background is a strong bonus – there will be many opportunities to gain experience and access to what's happening in blockchain, crypto, and digital transformation.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Internships last for the duration of the summer, with the possibility of extension. This is a remote position.

Job Duties

  • Work with Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor, along with the broader editorial team on stories, story pitches, and publishing schedule

  • Assist the editorial team with all aspects of the research and story lifecycle, including research, fact checks, analysis, and briefings on current and future story assignments

  • Coordinate and research notes on upcoming guests, newsmakers, and projects

  • Assist with scriptwriting for various interview segments and podcasts

  • Opportunity to write stories for publish, with bylines, upon successful research and collaboration with the team

  • Opportunity to attend editorial meetings and see the inner workings of a news organization

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in Associate, Bachelor, or Graduate degree at a top-tier institution

This role will work closely with our editorial leadership and influence our day-to-day editorial agenda.

Developing insightful perspectives through research is a critical part of our editorial process, and this role would play a key role in defining our editorial output. Job Duties

  • Contribute to new report coverage ideas and product ideas

  • Take lead in evolving products for Forkast.Insights business, including creating data tools and methodologies

  • Lead research and writing for in-depth industry research reports on an as-needed basis

Qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years of equity research or financial research experience; CFA preferred but not required

  • Strong interest in digital assets, blockchain, and crypto; familiarity with concepts in digital assets / crypto is highly preferred

Job Duties

  • Oversee copyediting needs as a second-in-command to the Managing Editor, and be able to take on copyediting duties in the Managing Editor's absence

  • Copyedit Forkast.News and Forkast.Insights (research reports) content, including news, deep dive analysis, newsletters, research, op-eds, videos, and graphics for style, grammar, punctuation, spelling, consistency, tone, and clarity

  • Maintain relationships with our editors, journalists, producers, and freelancers on the editorial team

  • Monitor and maintain copyediting standards across all produced content

  • Copyedit and caption photos, credits, and captions for accuracy and relevance

  • Growing the audience (organic traffic, social media, and subscribers) through SEO keyword research, headline A/B testing, and other strategies is a huge bonus

  • Select and optimize graphics that accompany stories and content with basic photo editing skills is a bonus

Qualifications

  • Thrives in a fast-paced, unstructured startup environment – hungry and willing to roll up your sleeves

  • At least 2 years experience writing and copyediting for a digital media publisher and/or newspaper / magazine

  • Strong news judgment and sense of journalism ethics

  • Ability to edit stories with a critical eye and for the big picture — spot holes if reporting is incomplete, work with writers to restructure stories to improve clarity and do occasional rewrites if necessary

  • Strong sense of journalistic integrity and experience maintaining style and standards for a newsroom, with an excellent eye for grammar, spelling, syntax, and writing for clarity

  • Desire to build and develop an editorial team's capabilities from the ground up by improving workflow and copyediting techniques that better serve our staff and audience

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) with native fluency in English and impeccable command of AP Style writing; ability to work with a range of experiences and professional backgrounds

  • Proven ability to copyedit within tight deadlines as needed and work within a global, decentralized team

  • Strong understanding of SEO and impact of headlines / keywords on engagement (with experience with tools such as Ahrefs, SEMrush, and Moz) is a huge bonus

The Role

Forkast.News is looking for a Finance & Accounting Lead to join our team, with an immediate start. This role reports directly to the COO and would have the opportunity to lead day-to-day finance and accounting functions for a venture-backed early-stage media startup. Forkast.News is a revenue-generating company and rapidly expanding both the team and projects, with a need to streamline all current financial operations in order to position itself for a new phase of growth.

Job Duties

  • Work closely with the COO to lead daily finance and accounting operations, maintain daily/monthly bookkeeping, manage accounts payables and receivables, process monthly payroll, complete end-of-month close, and manage year-end auditing and tax preparation

  • Facilitate communications related to finances with staff, outside vendors, commercial business partners, and legal/accounting providers

  • Manage Forkast's current financial software systems (e.g. Wise, AirwalleX, Xero, etc) and create/introduce new workflows for increased efficiencies

  • Develop and manage quarterly and annual budgets; prepare and maintain monthly cash flow analyses and financial statements

  • Reconcile monthly bank accounts and general ledger accounts and assist in reconciling balance sheet and income statement accounts on a quarterly basis

  • During periods of capital fundraise, work with COO to prepare the data room and all financial documents necessary for due diligence, as well as lead all financial modeling

  • Act as a critical resource and point of organization for finance and operations and ensure all financial records are organized and completed

  • Upon demonstration of skills and leadership, there is a path to a manager/lead position

Qualifications

  • Degree in finance, accounting, or related discipline

  • At least 2-3 years in a finance and/or accounting role; 5+ years preferred

  • Familiarity with setting up and managing accounts using Xero

  • Familiarity with Excel and building financial models

  • Desire to improve systems and create more efficient workflows is a must; willingness to monitor and learn about new fintech solutions applicable to our workflows

  • Must be highly detail-oriented, responsive, and have excellent time management skills

  • Assist with the production of all content (e.g. GIFs, promo videos, social media assets, video stills / thumbnails)

  • Act as a critical resource and point of organization for the entire video editorial production team

Qualifications

  • Skills in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere

    and After Effects are preferred, but not required

  • Skills in television news writing are preferred, but not required

  • A strong desire to learn, contribute, and grow in the creative field of video production / editing is essential
